10 Times WWE Grossly Mis-Read Their Audience

Remember when the WWF tried to make Lex Luger the next Hulk Hogan?

Even though WWE are in the business of making money, something they do quite well even today, Vince McMahon and his group of writing wizards sure don't like to be told what to do. There have been so many examples of WWE pulling the rug out from underneath their own fans, or pushing a wrestler the audience simply doesn't want to see at the top of the card (often at the expense of someone they do), and it's very confusing. In fairness, McMahon and his staff get a lot of things right, but most of the time when they get something wrong, it's because they've thrown their toys out of the pram at a certain audience reaction to what they're presenting, or flat out beat their heads against the proverbial brick wall until people simply accept it. This article is all about those times when the WWF/WWE chose not to listen to their core fan base, instead trying to force things down a certain path. Quite clearly, this rarely works, because people don't always want to be told who to cheer or boo for - there are exceptions to that, but these ones aren't on that list. Instead, they're on this one, looking at 10 times McMahon mis-read his audience.
