Was Kane really that great? Yes - he was.

Of some WWE wrestlers, it can be said that their wrestling legacy is absolutely set in stone.

'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, for example, hung up his boots way back in 2003, and his reputation now - and, you suspect, forever - is more or less the same as it was just as the dust was settling on his blow-off match with The Rock at WrestleMania XIX. He was one of the industry's biggest stars then, whatever his foibles, and that status has endured for the succeeding fourteen years.

Then there are those who were plenty popular in their hey-day, but with retrospect, perhaps a little over-estimated when you hold them up to the standards of the modern era (which is, of course, the best one, because it's happening right now). Or, conversely, there are those were criminally under-used at the time, but have seen their obvious ability celebrated by subsequent generations.

For various reasons (mainly legal ones) Hulk Hogan won't feature on this list, but there are one or two other WWE wrestlers whose legacies have been somewhat revised over the years.

10. Kane

Kane's career can be neatly split into two distinct parts: the part where he wore the mask, and the part where he didn't (or, alternatively: the part that was awesome, and the part that wasn't). Unfortunately, the second part was much longer, and that means Kane is at risk of being remembered as a hapless suit-wearing henchman for The Authority, rather than the all-conquering Big Red Machine that he was before things started to go all Katie Vick.

On the plus side, there's no way that Glen Jacobs will be remembered as anything other than a swell guy. Just ask pretty much anyone who has interacted with him - from fellow professional wrestlers with whom he shared the locker room for a decade to anonymous fans who met him once on the street for five minutes in 1999.
