Shortly before WrestleMania 33, AJ Styles kicked the ever-loving f*ck out of Shane McMahon and the crowd went wild. 'The Phenomenal One' had been hearing cheers early into his 2016 WWE Title reign that hadn't subsided after he'd lost the strap to John Cena the Royal Rumble. Nor did they dissipate when he took on the role of whinging insurgent on the blue brand against Shane McMahon.

Feeling oppressed and under-appreciated, Styles took his frustrations out on the Commissioner, leading to a WrestleMania show-opener that most felt was unbecoming of far-and-away the best wrestler in the organisation.

Luckily, AJ is exactly that, and their match surpassed expectations without 'Shane-O-Mac' gobbling up the headlines with a completely illogical high spot. The mutual respect forged finally afforded Styles a turn, but fans didn't learn anything from the supposed 'honour' of fighting Shane finally getting exposed.

His feud with Kevin Owens but a bullet in 'KO's own rivalry with Styles, such was the company priority to get to a Hell In A Cell battle between the pair. Remarkably, McMahon continued to hear cheers everywhere SmackDown Live! went, undoubtedly justifying in the 'Boy Wonder's own mind why he has the spot he does.
