The goal of any WWE superstar is always to become a world champion. Whether it's the WWE Championship on SmackDown Live or the Universal Championship over on Raw, this gold is highly coveted by stars who will do anything for the chance to wear the belts around their waist.

As 2018 gets going, it's inevitably a time to look forward to the year ahead. Much of 2017 was dominated by Brock Lesnar over on Raw and the Jinder Mahal experiment taking place over on SmackDown Live, but with Mahal gone from title contention and Lesnar seemingly destined to drop the belt at WrestleMania, the door is open again.

The likes of Roman Reigns and AJ Styles will almost certainly continue to be a part of the championship picture, but WWE is also likely to elevate some new contenders to the main event scene. There are dozens of top performers who have never had the opportunity to taste major gold during their time with the company.

Both brands have rosters packed with stars who will really benefit from spending time in the main event spotlight if the company is prepared to hand them their first ever world championship in WWE.
