2 Ups & 4 Downs From This Week's Impact Wrestling (Feb 22)

One step forward, two steps back.

Impact Wrestling

Ever since Homecoming, Impact's weekly programming has been rather lacklustre, to say the least. After quite an impressive 2018, the hype just hasn't continued.

This week was absolutely no exception, with several moments that make you question Impact's booking team. It's quite a shock really, given the roster they've got just now. Some of the world's finest independent talents are under the Impact banner but just haven't been given that moment to rise to their full capability. Take The Rascalz for example - they may be one of the best tag team on the independent circuit today, yet Impact make them appear as nothing more than a group of flippy lads who get high.

The World Championship picture is still revolving around the same three challengers coming for Johnny Impact's title and, although The Shaman of Sexy may seem like a fighting champion, he was the exact opposite this week when he interrupted a number one contenders match in favour of wanting to hand another title opportunity to Brian Cage, as long as The Machine helps him with Killer Kross and Moose. Doesn't exactly sound like a true fighting champion.

Impact were on the verge of something really special coming into 2019 after the stellar year they had last year. Little things are holding them back though unfortunately. We can only hope they're able to get back on track in the coming weeks because this episode was, for the majority, a shambles.

Let's get to it, first with the negatives...

Downs...

4. Wasted Potential

When it was revealed The Rascalz would be coming to Impact Wrestling, there was quite a bit of hype surrounding them. After all, they're the current PWG World Tag Team Champions and are three of the world's greatest independent high flying talents. What they've done in Impact however has been subpar to say the least.

Since arriving in the company as a trio, Dezmond Xavier, Zachary Wentz, and Trey Miguel have come across as nothing more than a group of lads who get high and do some fancy flips. Their match with The Desi Hit Squad on this week's episode, despite being a decent enough match aside from a few botches, just didn't show everything they're capable of.

Surely Impact know what they've got in their back pocket with The Rascalz. It's just a case of what they decide to do with them down the line. If this week was anything to go by however, they'll remain in pointless segments like this.
