2024: The Year That Could Make Or Break WWE

The year of 2024 may be WWE's greatest (or worst) yet.

2023 was quite the year for Dub-Dub-E.

In the wake of former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon retiring in disgrace in the summer of 2022, the controversial boss found a way to squeeze his way back into the promotion.

Not long after his frustratingly inevitable return, WWE then announced a huge merger between themselves and Endeavor, a move that would lead to the creation of the TKO conglomerate, with WWE and the UFC now operating under the same company banner.

It wasn't just a big 12-months behind-the-scenes either. Triple H also (mostly) booked his first full year of WWE programming. And the most successful WrestleMania of all time, the building of many a super popular babyface, the telling of numerous compelling long-term tales, and the bringing in of a certain 'Best in the World' all ultimately made 2023 an all-timer year for the Fed.

All of that excitement and those promising developments looked to be setting the stage for a 2024 that would bring even more waves of unprecedented success, right?

That may still be true - the company have just landed a monumental deal with Netflix, broken more records with their recent PLEs, and are on the verge of yet another historic WrestleMania. But it now feels like the remainder of this year could also turn out to be a disastrous one for WWE on the back of a number of rather disturbing and perplexing events.

The same week the organisation celebrated that aforementioned Monday Night Raw-Netflix partnership, and revealed to the world how Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson had just become their newest board member, a shocking lawsuit was made against Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE by Janel Grant, with McMahon and Laurinaitis being accused of some utterly horrific acts.

The first month of the year hadn't yet finished, and all eyes were well and truly on both WWE and TKO, waiting to see what their next moves would be.

Mix together some utterly baffling but perhaps quite inspired booking decisions, the potential for a once-satisfying return to completely unravel or electrify, and the general way WWE continue to handle the aforementioned unsettling real-life events, and one thing seems certain: 2024 is shaping up to be the most important year in WWE history - for better or worse...
