4 Ups & 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Sept 5)

1. Kevin Owens Steals The Show

The Kevin Owens/Shane McMahon feud isn’t to everyone, but KO has been outstanding throughout. His promo delivery is always on point, but he’s at his best when the company allow him to come off like the biggest scumbag in the universe, and that’s exactly what happened last night.

Owens started the evening by interrupting Carmella and James Ellsworth, then threatening to shut the show down. Shane came out and rightly pointed to his foe’s rapidly inflating sense of entitlement, but this sent the former United States Champion over the edge.

KO questioned if “daddy issues” had led to Shane’s constant need to steal the spotlight from his performers. He then took things a step further, stating that McMahon’s family would’ve been better off if the Commissioner had perished in his helicopter accident, which triggered Shane. He struck first, and after the duo were separated, Owens threatened to sue Shane, WWE, and every single member of the McMahon family.

Again, threatening to sue somebody for violence committed on a wrestling show doesn’t make a whole lot sense, but this leap of logic was superseded by Owens’ performance. He was fantastic, and while he could definitely be doing something more beneficial than feuding with the boss’ son at the moment, segments like this make the storyline much easier to tolerate.
