Over the past several weeks, WWE has promoted The Undertaker and Triple H's upcoming match as the "conclusion to their epic rivalry". This is problematic because it makes it sound like the pair have been endlessly feuding with each other for over two decades, which couldn't be further from the truth.

When they first crossed paths in 1995, HHH was merely in the wrong place at the wrong time (on Mabel's team at Survivor Series '95), and the same could be said for his allegiance with Shawn Michaels in 1997, which also landed him in 'Taker's way. They mostly managed to coexist throughout their Corporate Ministry stint before Hunter's possession of the WWE Championship made him a target for the 'American Badass' in 2000.

Triple H wanted competition in 2001 while The Undertaker cost him the WWE Title in 2002. They remained out of each other's lives for six years until they began mixing in the same WWE Championship circles in 2008. Then, in 2011, Triple H wanted to avenge Shawn Michaels' retirement, which led to their back-to-back WrestleMania clashes.

Different circumstances led to each of their respective collisions, during which their long history was never referenced (bar the last one). If anything, it has been a series of feuds for completely different reasons. They have not been having the same deep-rooted grudge-ridden feud for 20 years, but it simply suits WWE to portray it as such in an attempt to make this "last time ever" bigger than the previous one.
