6 Ups And 6 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (April 27th)

All hail the return of the King of the Ring tournament!

WWE brass seemingly woke up a few weeks ago and remembered that the company has an entire Network that they can produce and program shows for at any given time. While several of the new shows that are being rolled out this week and next are talking heads programs, WWE did seize upon the idea of adding original wrestling content by resurrecting the once-popular King of the Ring tournament, to be held in part on Raw Monday night and on the WWE Network Tuesday night. The return of KOTR is a welcome addition for longtime fans who had trouble figuring out why an event that gave birth to Austin 3:16, the King of Harts and King Booker could be brushed aside so easily. WWE kicked off the eight-man tournament on Raw with four first-round matches, which dominated the in-ring action Monday night. Although it doesn€™t look like this year€™s tournament will rise to the level that it did in the 1996-2002 era, it€™s good to have it back. In addition to King of the Ring, Raw focused on Seth Rollins€™ mouth once again getting him into trouble. It€™s a recurring theme that actually works really well given his character. He€™s a young, brash and talented wrestler who€™s gotten a lot quickly (too much, too soon?) with the help of the Authority, and we€™re seeing how his arrogance is causing problems. So let€™s find out which moments wore the crown Monday night and which ones should be headed for the guillotine.

Scott is a former journalist and longtime wrestling fan who was smart enough to abandon WCW during the Monday Night Wars the same time as the Radicalz. He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
