7 Things That Must Happen At WWE Extreme Rules 2017

WWE is faced with a number of conundrums heading into the most extreme night of the year.

Another WWE RAW pay-per-view event is upon us, and once again the WWE Universal Champion is missing. Brock Lesnar only shows up when Brock Lesnar wants to, but the five men who headline WWE Extreme Rules can be forgiven for having Brock on their minds. Finn Bálor, Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns, Samoa Joe and Seth Rollins will do battle in the main event, with the winner going on to Great Balls of Fire to challenge Lesnar for the title.

With most of RAW's star-power thrown into one match, the rest of the card faces something of an uphill battle to impress. The strength in depth of WWE's stocks is clear however, as four championship matches and a number of former champions still find themselves on the card. The stipulations are somewhat lacking, but there is enough on the plate to say that Extreme Rules can and will be a success.

What must happen for that to happen? The decisions WWE makes on Sunday night will impact the rest of 2017 for the flagship show, and as such the company can't afford any missteps.

Avoiding the pitfalls is simple enough on paper, but then professional wrestling doesn't take place on paper.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
