7 Times WWE Cast Doubt On Finn Bálor's Future

The Demon is going backwards.

The road to success for Finn Bálor has been one chock-full of potholes and detours, to say the least.

After a loss in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match to John Cena on RAW, the WWE Universe was left wondering what was next for 'The Demon King.' In addition to his Royal Rumble match loss, it appeared he was left out of the big title picture again. They watched a key superstar—the first Universal Champion—return in a less than spectacular fashion only to once again gain momentum before everything went right back to square-one the night after the Rumble.

However, the debate over what WWE has in store for 'The Extraordinary Man Who Can Do Extraordinary Things' isn’t brand-new; it started almost as soon as he arrived on the main roster.

He is a main event player, but yet again finds himself dwindling down the card as soon as he starts to find a groove. But whether the subject of poor booking, lazy storylines, or even injury, there are more moments than just the Cena match to make Bálor fans weary of how WWE envisions their favourite superstar.

7. Not Going After Brock Lesnar

Prior to a 2017 Extreme Rules Fatal 5-Way Match to determine the #1 Contender to the WWE Universal Championship, Finn Bálor was not involved in a major storyline and was ripe for a feud with ‘The Beast Incarnate.’

While Samoa Joe was a favorite to win the match as well, ‘The Demon King’ boondoggled around the mid-card and needed a little push to move forward. Without a current angle, it made sense that his next program could have started with battling Lesnar, and what would have been bigger at the time? Despite his size, ‘The Extraordinary Man’ did have superb in-ring abilities, not to mention perfect timing, which was essential when going up against WWE’s version of a video game boss.

Even Paul Heyman agreed when he stated, “Mr Bálor, I respectfully submit, you sir, are nobody’s victim… Finn Bálor, you’re no underdog either. I believe in my heart, you are the most talented in-ring performer in WWE today… I’m most intrigued to the possibility of Brock Lesnar vs Finn Bálor for the Universal Championship.”

And the crowd popped.

But it didn’t matter what Heyman or the WWE Universe thought. Not only did Bálor fail to pick up the victory at Extreme Rules, he was also the person who lost the match to Samoa Joe by passing out.

‘The Demon’ never went on to pursue Lesnar and, by the following month, he didn’t even have a spot on the Great Balls Of Fire card.
