No wrestling career lasts forever. This is especially true of WWE performers, where a talent becomes obsolete once their perceived value has run out. Even the lengthiest careers come to an end, some in a blaze of glory at WrestleMania, others in B-show enhancement matches. Some get huge fanfare, others disappear with a whimper.

A small band of professional wrestlers' final televised WWE appearance just so happened to come in the Royal Rumble match, the annual 30-man battle royal that represents the first major signpost of the year in WWE. Despite its inherently clustered nature, it is one of the most important and most watched matches of the year.

Even so, would anyone choose to go out in the company of 29 other men? Very rarely does an individual get to choose when they say goodbye to the WWE Universe, so that question is somewhat superfluous. These seven men waved bye bye to the fans in the Royal Rumble match, some going out fighting, others eliminating themselves to save face, some returning for one final hurrah in the match.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
