8 Most Legendary Shawn Michaels Performances In Defeat

What happened to The Heartbreak Kid not laying down for absolutely no one?

Shawn Michaels once memorably said, €œThe Heartbreak Kid lays down for absolutely no one!€ That seemed to hold up pretty well in the 90s, as Shawn famously forfeited more championships than anyone in modern wrestling history. It was more than a braggadocios line; it seemed to be his message to the entire WWE locker room. From phantom injuries, to timely suspensions, Shawn found a way to win numerous big matches and championships, but not lose them. Nevertheless, as his career ascended to greater heights, it became more troubling to remain the same guy he once was. While a changing industry dictated a new star to take his place in Stone Cold Steve Austin, a devastating back injury led to Shawn€™s mid-career retirement. At his peak, Shawn was forced to walk away from the sport he ruled for so many years, to not only recuperate his body, but to fix himself as a person. Consequently, Shawn became a born again Christian, and from all accounts he became much easier to work with. He was willing to share the spotlight, and do the €œright thing€ for the business, in ways no one in the mid 1990€™s would have believed. Additionally, Shawn was able to shine in defeat at a higher level than victory could convey. Shawn found a way to transcend this sport of wins and losses, and change the narrative to reflect his performance as a whole, rather than if he was able to win a predetermined wrestling contest. If one were looking to further understand this, they would have to look no further than his 6-11 record at the event that earned him the nickname Mr. WrestleMania. In any other sport he would be branded a choker. Shawn Michaels was just that special. Therefore, here are the 8 Most Legendary Shawn Michaels performances in defeat.
