8 Possible MMA Promotions Alberto Del Rio Could Succeed In

Despite a kickboxing match with Goldberg falling through, there are still options for Dos Caras Jr.

For months, there has been talk about Alberto del Rio, the former WWE champion, currently wrestling under the name Alberto El Patron, returning to the world of MMA, where he competed for years under the name Dos Caras Jr. For Del Rio/Patron/Dos Caras, it would be a homecoming of sorts: he was actually quite successful fighting for real in Japan and elsewhere, running up a 9-5 record, which included a six fight win streak from 2007 to 2010. Del Rio himself has been very quiet on the subject, but Bellator MMA head honcho Scott Coker did confirm talks with the pro wrestler's camp, and just a few weeks ago, Bill Goldberg let it slip that he had been offered a kickboxing match against none other than the biggest latino superstar in pro wrestling at the moment. Although he has been working recently with AAA, ROH and Lucha Underground, none of those promotions require his services to be exclusive, and he has also been booking independent shows in the Americas and Japan. Asking a rumoured $5,000 per appearance at indy shows to keep fly-by-night operators away, there's no question that the man is doing quite well for himself in the pro wrestling world, but that doesn't mean he won't bite if the right MMA promotion comes calling, and more importantly perhaps, offers the right amount of money. Some will. Alberto Del Rio is enough of a name that he could instantly bump an event's viewership up past the million viewer mark thanks to wrestling fans and the curiosity factor. And combined with the fact that he has a legit background in the sport, it's win-win: no matter how he fares in a return bout, it will be seen as a safer signing than recent wrestling to MMA crossover CM Punk. So, lets take a look at eight promotions Del Rio could succeed in!
