10 Times John Cena Lost Clean

The rare occasions that Super Cena has done the job, no questions asked.

A main criticism of WWE over the last, well, decade, had been the invincible booking of John Cena. The former Doctor of Thuganomics is now a fifteen time WWE Champion and only needs two more reigns to eclipse Flair as record holder. Wrestling historians and Cena critics loathe the idea and pray it never happens. Cena's track record, however, suggests it will. WWE's signature may claim that it is 'Then. Now. Forever.' but, in reality, WWE is most concerned with the 'right now'. It's about pushing and promoting who can do business for the company at the moment and, invariably, that has tended to be Cena. As a merchandise phenomenon and house show draw, Cena must be protected. He is a superhero-type figure to children all over the world, who beg their parents to take them to WWE live events and buy the new Cena shirt, wrist band, glossy 8x10, DVD and so on. The belief is that, were Cena to suffer too many losses, his popularity and drawing power would fade. But sometimes there are occasions when Cena just has to lose clean. A DQ, outside interference or a dusty finish just won't do. These occasions are rare, but they do happen, with a few surprising instances. Note: this article only pertains to Cena after he became a main event star. There are plenty of instances of Cena losing when he was just another midcard guy between 2002-05. This article is about post-2005, world-beating John Cena.
