Debut show did better than every ECW show ever.

Early PPV numbers for All Elite Wrestling's debut show, Double or Nothing, are actually in, and they are pretty bloody rosey for the nascent company.

We were amongst a few outlets who accidentally misreported the PPV's buys last Sunday, as ambiguity over the Wrestling Observers' Google Trend numbers combined with the sleep-deprivation and stupidity of our reporters (specifically, yours truly). We apologise unreservedly to both our readers and the Observer's Dave Meltzer for the error.

That said, the misquoted figure of 200,000 isn't a million miles away from the real figure. Speaking on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, the veteran journalist cited buys at approximately 98,000, with the expectation that it'll surpass 100k once replays are factored into the equation.

The number includes traditional PPV providers, Fite, ITV Box Office and B/R Live.

Breaking 100,000 would see Double or Nothing eclipse the most successful show in ECW's history on night one, topping the 99,000 buys Paul Heyman's group garnered for Heat Wave '99. This would also easily define AEW's debut as the biggest non WWE/WCW show in history.

Meltzer reported that the PPV outperformed last month's WWE Money in the Bank by around 2.2 times - and that it received the most feedback of any show in the history of his long-running newsletter.

The nibs of several more pencils just snapped in Stamford.

He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
