AEW Tag Team Title Tournament Brackets Announced

On last night's Road To TNT, AEW announced the brackets for the tournament set to announce the inaugural World Tag Team Champions.

A single-elimination tournament, the brackets follow a quarter/semi/final format, with the exception of one team - the Dark Order - who won a bye directly into the semis by virtue of their All Out victory over the Best Friends. The opening rounds are as follows:

The Young Bucks Vs. Private Party face the winner of the Lucha Brothers Vs. Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus. The winner of that semi-final proceeds to the final. On the other side of the bracket, the winner of SCU Vs. the Best Friends faces the Dark Order in the final.

Author's Note:

A repeat of the very over-familiar Bucks Vs. Lucha Brothers programme, if it materialises, might prove deflating. But the series has rolled on because it guarantees outstanding matches, and such an outstanding match, promoted so early into the TV era, will differentiate AEW from the competition. Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus are arguably the hottest cult act in the entire company; they would likely get cheered at the expense of the Bucks right now, which would make for a quality return to the old, at-their-best Bucks act. SCU Vs. Best Friends is hard to predict, as is the direction of the Dark Order. The company is as behind them as the fandom is not.

In summary, this tournament was built with a weird convolution, but is, at least, unpredictable.

There is no room for the debuting Ortiz and Santana, which perhaps indicates that they will compete against the new Champions at Full Gear.
