Alberto Del Rio Makes WWE Return At Hell In A Cell

Former World Champion answers John Cena's call.

To the shock of many on Sunday evening, former WWE World Champion Alberto Del Rio made his return at Hell In A Cell to challenge John Cena for the U.S. Championship. Del Rio had been rumored to be in discussions with WWE concerning a return for the past several weeks but nobody suspected they were this far down the line in negotiations. Del Rio was released from his WWE contract last year following a physical altercation with an employee backstage. Del Rio claimed that the employee had made racial slurs directed his way, so the fact that Del Rio was the person released had garnered WWE some negative attention. Since his exit from WWE in 2014, Del Rio had wrestled in Mexico, as well as for Ring Of Honor Wrestling and Lucha Underground. https://twitter.com/WWE/status/658438208171040768 The U.S. Championship match was the opener for Hell In A Cell. After Cena's entrance and open challenge, Zeb Colter came out on the stage. He called Cena a "divider" and said that it was time for the WWE universe to get behind a "uniter." At that point, Colter introduced Del Rio. Del Rio defeated Cena and won the U.S. title following a superkick. Cena is not scheduled to wrestle for WWE again until December 26, a house show at Madison Square Garden. He is reportedly taking two months off for personal reasons / to film a fitness reality television show.
