Dave Meltzer recently speculated on Wrestling Observer Radio that ex-NXT Champion Aleister Black could be in line for a main roster call-up sooner rather than later.

The 33-year old, renowned by regular NXT viewers as one of the best wrestlers WWE have on their books, is someone the Observer chief keeps hearing from sources is near the top of the list for promotion. If that happens, it'll leave a gaping hole in the NXT landscape, and it remains to see how main roster chiefs would use Black.

Meltzer didn't seem to have any knowledge on precisely which brand the Dutchman would end up on either, meaning this could all be rumour and nothing else. Still, it's interesting to learn that his sources (whomever they may be) keep talking about Black. Someone behind the scenes in WWE must fancy him for Raw or SmackDown.

Since debuting on NXT at TakeOver: Orlando last year, Black has gone on to become a pillar of the brand and a useful tool for elevating others like Velveteen Dream. Any main roster success would rely on the same kind of in-ring centric booking however and, as we've seen with other NXT call-ups, that's not guaranteed.
