Backstage Update On Finn Balor's WWE Return
The Demon King's six-month absence is almost over.
Finn Balor returned to a WWE ring during Wednesday night's NXT TV tapings. Saving Shinsuke Nakamura from a two-on-one beatdown, the Irishman attacked both Andrade "Cien" Almas and NXT Champion Bobby Roode, before cutting a quick promo stating that he'd soon be back to reclaim what's his.
It was a dark segment and won't air on NXT TV, but Balor's amiguity led to speculation on which brand he'd join after receiving medical clearance to return. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has now cleared this up, stating that Balor will definitely return to WWE's main roster, not NXT, after recovering.
Balor is currently being advertised for a handful of Raw live events in March, along with WWE's European tour in May. Meltzer added that he has always been scheduled to appear at WrestleMania 33 on April 2nd, but there's no word on what his role will be.
Balor has been out of action since being crowned WWE's first Universal Champion at SummerSlam 2016. Wednesday's tapings were the first time he has engaged in a physical confrontation in a WWE ring since then, and with Meltzer stating that Balor could return "within the next two weeks," his recovery is almost over.
