At last night's NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 4, WWE revealed to the crowd in attendance at the Barclays Center the first match for October's upcoming all-women PPV, Evolution.

A graphic flashed up on screen advertising that current Raw Women's champion Alexa Bliss will take on seven time WWE Women's title holder and legendary Hall of Famer Trish Stratus in Uniondale, New York this autumn.

The match was later confirmed on WWE.com, who rather obviously noted that this will be the first time the two have squared off in the ring. Stratus retired from regular competition in 2006. Her last active appearance for the company was a cameo in this year's first-ever female Royal Rumble.

The timing of the announcement is certainly curious. At present, WWE are promoting Bliss as the champion in the bout, though obviously that could change pending the result of her contest against Ronda Rousey this Sunday. Does this early reveal telegraph the result of that title tussle, or will the proposed tie go ahead regardless of the belt's owner?

Over 50 female wrestlers from the past and present are set to descend on Long Island's Nassau Coliseum on 28 October, with every current title set to be defended.

He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
