Y2J wasn't supposed to make Payback...

A recent interview with Busted Open Radio revealed that Chris Jericho's latest WWE run was supposed to end back at WrestleMania 33.

Dropping the United States Title to Kevin Owens on the pay-per-view, Y2J would go on to recapture the belt from KO at Payback before losing it once again to his fellow Canadian on SmackDown. None of that would have happened had Vince McMahon not convinced Jericho to prolong his run.

In fairness to McMahon, his approach was the most logical due to Y2J (the babyface) losing to Owens (the heel) on WWE's biggest show of the year. Having Jericho avenge such a defeat before ultimately succumbing to KO's determination to end the rivalry made their story a well-rounded one.

Jericho described everything during his latest run as "very organic" too, and even hinted that he would have returned to the road with Fozzy had other band members not been recording a new Stuck Mojo album.

That lack of Fozzy action and the amount of fun he was having kept Jericho on the road with WWE far longer than expected, although everything was supposed to end at WrestleMania.
