During a recent Ross Report podcast, Jim Ross expressed his desire to work with CM Punk as broadcast commentators for New Japan Pro Wrestling's iPPV events. Punk previously did commentary work for WWE in 2010, which was met with universal praise. As of July he's a free agent in the wrestling industry, so some sort of role with New Japan is certainly a possibility. Jim Ross's no-compete clause also expired in July, leaving him free to work for another wrestling company other than WWE. What's the chances of this dream commentating partnership now coming together for New Japan? Not too likely according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Apparently the idea of Ross doing NJPW shows was pitched to the Japanese company, but they didn't really bite on the prospect. The reluctance on New Japan's part could be because their iPPV's don't do a lot of buys outside of Japan. However, surely that's as good a reason as any to bring a celebrated western commentary pairing on board. Ross, and particularly Punk, would attract an audience in the United States. J.R is keen on the idea, but he hasn't talked to Punk about it yet. The Straight Edge star is said to be happy out of wrestling, however, he might be attracted to the idea of commentating. Feasibly he could record his lines from home in Chicago, enjoying a vocation in wrestling without any of the travel or physical drawbacks. Jim Ross' comments have certainly given New Japan and CM Punk something to think about. Would you like to see CM Punk link up with JR in New Japan Wrestling?
