Could The Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles Be Separated At WrestleMania XL?
Stipulation for 'Mania ladder match raises the possibility of separate WWE Tag Team Titles.
For the past two years, WWE's main roster has operated with one set of Tag Team Champions, despite having two distinct brands. That could be set to change at WrestleMania XL if a stipulation announced on Raw Monday night plays out a certain way.
In May 2022, then-SmackDown Tag Team Champions the Usos defeated Raw Tag Team Champions RK-Bro to unify the red and blue tag titles, becoming the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions, a distinction they carried into WrestleMania 39, where they lost the titles to Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. Since then, the titles have bounced between the Judgment Day and Cody Rhodes & Jey Uso, with Finn Balor & Damian Priest having now held the straps since October.
At WrestleMania XL, the duo will defend their Tag Titles in a six-pack ladder match. During Raw last night, Michael Cole made a point twice of pointing out that both sets of Tag Titles will be hung above the ring, and the match will continue until both sets are retrieved. While it doesn't explicitly state that whoever retrieves one set will become that brand's Tag Champs, it's worth noting that this is the first time in a while that the Tag Team Titles have been referenced as being separate championships. It's also worth noting that the Usos did defend the Raw and SmackDown Tag Titles individually at times, as well as simultaneously.
With six teams vying for tag team gold, it's entirely plausible that one team will grab the red straps, and another will secure the blue titles, thus separating the Tag Titles once again. WWE could choose to recognize them as separate titles again, or they could have a "winner-takes-all" match to reunify the titles.
Given the increased presence of tag teams and stables on both brands, having two distinct Tag Team Championships would make a lot of sense going forward.
