Daniel Bryan Announces Retirement From Wrestling

The news we hoped would never come - D-Bry is done.

He single handedly saved WrestleMania XXX and now he's broken our hearts. Just over an hour ago, Daniel Bryan took to his official Twitter page to break the news that due to medical complications, he has been forced to retire from wrestling.

The YES man started his journey to the top of the wrestling mountain in 1999 when he joined Shawn Michaels' training school. In the decade that followed he'd wrestle across the world in Japan, the US, Mexico and became a legend in Ring of Honor before signing with WWE in 2010. Initially, he was part of the NXT game show format and when he debuted on RAW with the Nexus, he got fired for choking Justin Roberts with a tie, although he'd be brought back a few months later at SummerSlam of that year. Bryan's big turning point in WWE was an 18 second loss to Sheamus for the World Title at WrestleMania 28, where the fans revolted and began to chant 'YES' with him. He would go on to defeat John Cena to become WWE Champion and main evented WrestleMania XXX defeating Triple H in the opener and coming out victorious in the main event against Batista and Randy Orton to lift the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. A 2014 neck injury would force him to forfeit the title and spend 9 months on the shelf before returning just in time for the 2015 Royal Rumble. Although the audience seemingly wanted him in the main event of WrestleMania 31, instead Bryan found himself in the opener again, this time winning the Intercontinental Championship. Sadly a few weeks later, a concussion would sideline him once again. After months of rumours that he's been cleared by a UCLA doctor but unable to get cleared by WWE's Chief physician, Joseph Maroon, it's finally true that his injuries will stop him from returning to the ring. With Bryan appearing on RAW tonight to talk about his retirement and say thank you to the fans, it's set to be an emotional episode. Get your tissues ready for this one.
