Did WWE Rewrite Last Night's SmackDown Last Minute?

WWE left it very late to announce what was on offer for Friday's SmackDown. Why?

WWE appeared to change their minds on the booking for last night's episode of SmackDown.

The company left it uncharacteristically late to announce what matches were on tap for the blue brand's latest, and didn't actually lay out the card until 10 minutes before SmackDown went live on FOX. That, as regular viewers will know, hasn't been how WWE has done business for most of 2020.

They've announced bouts and segments approx one week in advance, or at least given a few days notice in order to properly build some anticipation.

SmackDown's latest episode didn't have that - instead, WWE kept its cards close to its chest and only hyped matches like Daniel Bryan vs. Sami Zayn, Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode vs. The Street Profits and Otis vs. 'King' Corbin (which didn't end up happening when Jey Uso attacked the former with a steel chair) minutes before the show began.

Frantic rewrites are nothing new for WWE, but this one feels even more hurried than usual. It's either that or the promotion just didn't think there was any need to hype what was on tap.
