Fatal 5 Way Set For WWE Fastlane

AJ Style's WWE Title now on the line against four others.

As per last night's show, SmackDown's next brand-exclusive offering Fastlane will now be headlined by a Fatal 5 Way for AJ Styles' WWE Title, with the Phenomenal One set to defend against an onslaught of Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn, Dolph Zigggler, and Baron Corbin.

The duo of Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens fell to Corbin and Ziggler in succession during Tuesday's transmission, giving each their place in the title tussle.

It's a bit strange, really, and speaks of WWE's erratic booking and entirely un-stratified roster. To say Corbin and Ziggler have endured a tumultuous time of late would be an understatement. The Lone Wolf got on the wrong side of officials last autumn after an argument with Chief Medical Director Joseph Maroon, resulting in his Money in the Bank aspirations promptly dashed and a significant de-push. Ziggler's recent handling has been a complete shambles; he participated in a convoluted storyline in which he 'quit' the company after relinquishing his freshly-won US title, only to make a surprise return at Royal Rumble to do... absolutely nothing.

Now they're both in a PPV main-event. Sure, there's more chance of Katie Hopkins passionately dictating the Communist Manifesto on The One Show than either actually winning, but it's still utterly daft. What's next, Jinder Mahal suddenly in... oh, wait...

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
