Finn Balor Is The WWE Name of Fergal Devitt

The talented Irishman is set to debut in NXT very soon.

The NXT debut of Fergal "Prince" Devitt is imminent, possibly at the NXT tapings that are taking place today in the Orlando area. He has a new name too: Finn Balor. Here's some info on the possible origin: "Finn is a name of Irish origin that translates into "fair." The name Balor comes from Irish Mythology as Balor was the name of the monarch of the Formorians, a race of giants who ruled Ireland before the arrival of the Tuatha De Danann, the gods worshiped by the Celts & Druids before the rise of Christianity. Balor was essentially a Cyclops, a giant with a single eye in the center of his forehead, and was viewed as the God of drought & blight. The myths sort of compare the Formorians to the Titans of Greek Mythology and that they were essentially gods of chaos and wild nature." There are going to be some mixed reactions to the name because his real name is unique and his character name Prince Devitt worked. However, by this point it should be obvious that WWE will always do things their way and most new employees get a name change. That's just how they are. It wasn't that way back in 2002 when Brock Lesnar, John Cena and Randy Orton were allowed to use their real names, but that's the way it is now. Finn Balor is a name that we'll definitely have to get used to. Hopefully it was Devitt himself that came up with it or had a say in it because all that really matters is that the guy that's using the name likes what he is going to be called in his professional career. He's a talented performer that will do everything possible to make it work. Let's see what he can do before complaining about a name. What matters most is his work on camera and Devitt's talented enough that he's going to be successful at everything he does. The NXT tapings tonight are for shows that will air in late October and into November because they taped four shows recently. You won't see Balor's debut until the end of next month although spoilers should be posted by Friday morning. If you're complaining, that's your right, but think on the bright side. At least it's better than Michael McGillicutty.
