Dean Ambrose's hell turn could have been a LOT different...

Seth Rollins is currently in the midst of one of the best years of his WWE career, having racked up a laundry list of good-to-great TV and pay-per-view bouts, starred in The Shield's reunion, and spent 174 cumulative days as Intercontinental Champion.

'The Kingslayer' has enjoyed two reigns with Raw's secondary title this year, but things may have been different had WWE gone with their reported original plan for Dean Ambrose's heel turn.

According to WrestleVotes, the company had intended on having 'The Lunatic Fringe' betray his former ally by costing him the Intercontinental Championship, with Elias taking the strap as a result. Instead, Ambrose and Rollins will seemingly contest the strap throughout their ongoing feud, with the first major clash coming on 16 December's TLC pay-per-view.

If the story is true, then WWE changed their mind on Elias as Intercontinental Champion (along with several other high-level storylines) when Roman Reigns' leukaemia returned. That's understandable, but while it's a shame Elias has seemingly lost his title run, involving the belt in the Rollins vs. Ambrose feud should give it prestige.

Regardless, expect Elias to drift closer to contention over the coming months. He's too over not to.
