Is Dean Ambrose's WWE Release A Work?

Even Ambrose's own roster-mates don't know if it's real or fake.

Dean Ambrose reportedly requesting his WWE release has dominated pro-wrestling headlines all week, with the former Shield man apparently intending to walk away when his current contract expires at the end of April, having handed in his notice over Royal Rumble weekend.

That WWE released an official statement on the matter on their website sowed seeds of doubt on Tuesday morning, given that the promotion don't tend to acknowledge departures ahead of time. The lack of wishing Ambrose well in his "future endeavours" was just as curious.

Now, Dave Meltzer is reporting that several people within WWE believe the whole thing is a work.

Speaking on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer stated that WWE putting it on their website sparked confusion among the company's own employees. Lots of roster members legitimately believe that the whole thing is an act, and while Meltzer tried to confirm it with WWE personnel, none had a clue.

Meltzer also speculated that Nia Jax striking Ambrose on Raw may have been done to humiliate the former WWE Champion on his way out. As things stand, though, we probably won't know the truth of Dean's situation until after WrestleMania 35.
