Jack Swager Becomes New WWE United States Champion On Raw

On last night’s RAW Supershow the ‘All American American” Jack Swagger became the new WWE United States Champion after he defeated Zack Ryder. During the match Ryder was selling the injury angle from Kane’s attack last week and the match ended up being almost a squash as Ryder tried to cling on and kick-out after several power moves on him. Eventually his injuries got too much and he could no longer kick out.

John LaurinaitisĀ confirmed after the match that Zack Ryder hadn’t been medically cleared to wrestle last night which is interesting because they played a similar angle last month on SmackDown when Daniel Bryan cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to beat Mark Henry for the World Heavyweight Title after The Big Show gave The World’s Strongest Man a WMD punch but Teddy Long reversed it because Henry hadn’t been cleared to wrestle.

Swagger’s title win last night was the first time he had won the U.S. Title in his career. He is a previous WWE World Heavyweight Champion and ECW Champion (under WWE ownership).
