John Cena 'American Grit' Going Directly Against WWE SmackDown

It's the Thursday night wars!

John Cena's 'American Grit' reality show will be airing on the FOX Network starting 4/14 with a 9 PM slot. That means it will be direct competition for WWE Smackdown. People at USA Network can't be happy about that. They've just brought Smackdown to their Network, and now one of WWE's key stars is going to be drawing fans over to FOX. Likewise, the WWE must be frustrated with the situation. They'll be glad of Cena's burgeoning mainstream profile, but having him in direct competition to WWE programming isn't good. Smackdown will inevitably be hurt to some extent, as Cena is the biggest star in the company. He has almost eight million twitter followers and many WWE fans will watch him over the product. It is a situation in which a WWE star is going to be taking views away from WWE. And to be fair, American Grit looks a solid production. The first trailer shows exciting scenes in which normal people test themselves against military training techniques. It looks a lot of fun, and Cena's presenter role is pushed hard in the trailer. He's a big part of American Grit, and will likely do a lot of media in early April to promote it.
