Jon Moxley Signs Multi-Year AEW Contract
WWE thought he was set to retire.
Dean Ambrose did retire, in effect; Jon Moxley debuted for All Elite Wrestling during a stunning, show-closing angle in which he brawled furiously with Kenny Omega in a wild and rapturously-received scene.
In an impeccable tease, Omega just avoided the Dirty Deeds by sending Ambrose tumbling out of the ring - but he wasn't so lucky when the heated fight reached the stage. Moxley struck his finish atop the poker chips prop, in a great visual image poetic in its reflection of Moxley's "bet on himself" WWE exit promo.
In a press release posted to Twitter after Double Or Nothing's conclusion, AEW president Tony Khan confirmed that Jon Moxley has signed a multi-year, full-time deal "effective immediately". He will make his debut for the promotion at the upcoming Fyter Fest show on Saturday, June 29.
Whether this contradicts Dave Meltzer's report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter a few weeks back is uncertain; Uncle Dave revealed that Ambrose was set to take various Independent bookings, but AEW's fluid, bespoke contracts may not prohibit Moxley from supplementing his income elsewhere.
In any event, AEW just booked their Lex Luger On Nitro moment, setting up a very intriguing dream match and levelling the perception, at least, of this new competitive war.
