Kevin Owens Makes WWE Raw Debut Attacking John Cena

The John Cena US Open challenge was taking place on Raw like always and he called out somebody to answer the challenge. It was a surprise to see Kevin Owens respond to the call with the NXT Title on his shoulder. This wasn't announced or rumored, so when it happened it was one of those genuine surprise moments on Raw that we won't soon forget. It started out as a friendly discussion with Owens saying he didn't need to introduce himself. Cena did it anyway. Owens mentioned that Sami Zayn didn't get hurt because of his match against Cena. He added that Zayn was hurt because of him, which was a way to set up the Owens/Zayn match at NXT Takeover Unstoppable this Wednesday, assuming Zayn is able to compete. Following some insults from Owens, Cena told Owens to step up. Owens replied by saying he had already had the NXT Title and told Cena that they'll fight on his terms, not Cena's. That's when Owens did a cheapshot. Owens kicked Cena in the stomach, then tossed him into the ropes and hit a Popup Powerbomb. Owens followed that up by grabbing the US Title and posing with it along with the NXT Title. The Owens tossed the US Title down, stood on it and taunted Cena before leaving. Later on Raw, Owens was congratulated by Triple H for what he did. Owens also announced that he's been granted a US Title match against John Cena at the Elimination Chamber event on May 31. It was one of the better segments on Raw this year. Owens' debut was a total surprise and for him to go after Cena on his first night on Raw that says a lot about how WWE might push him hard right away. We know that sometimes people feud with Cena and it's considered bad because Cena usually wins, but it's not like a heel debuts this way very often. For Owens to just leave Cena laying like that was a huge moment. This is the kind of thing that WWE needs more often. It's hard to always book surprises or unpredictability, but when done right it's a reminder of why we love this business so much. Welcome to Raw, Kevin Owens.
