Matt Hardy has confirmed his departure from TNA via Twitter.

Following a contract dispute with the new TNA management, Broken Matt will be leaving the company when his contract expires this week.

It's as yet unclear if his brother Jeff Hardy will similarly walk out on TNA this week when his deal expires. Matt and Jeff were the current TNA Tag Team Champions.

Here's what Matt tweeted on Monday night to confirm his exit from TNA;

"My stint with @IMPACTWRESTLING was DELIGHTFUL. EXCEPTIONAL talent & locker room. A great, respectful team that worked hard in tough times."
"I wish @IMPACTWRESTLING all the best going forward, especially the INDUSTRIOUS talent. I hope they're all treated with respect & fairness."

Obviously Broken Matt was much more amicable in his comments than his wife, Reby was earlier, and despite all the ridiculously eccentric behavior of his character - one he has remained remarkably committed to in all facets of his life - it's nice to see Hardy take the high road despite obviously being displeased and in the midst of a public quarrel with what is now his former employer.

Here's what Reby said earlier on Monday on her own Twitter account;

"I've said it many times: TNA was the perfect situation for our family & how grateful I was for professionalism/open communication/respect...
...Now think about what kinda negative changes & straight f*ckery would have to go down for us to leave.

As the Hardys had previously informed independent wrestling promotions outside TNA that they would no longer be accepting independent bookings after April, one can't help but wonder how this will speed up the process. Will we see Matt and Jeff in WWE any day now?

Earlier on Monday, Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet reported a story that has since been verified by PWInsider and John Pollack, which states that The Hardys initially reached an agreement back in December to remain with TNA, with a few remaining details looming. However, the paperwork was never sent and when Matt inquired about the contract he was given the runaround.

The brothers then had their lawyers reach out to TNA to inform them they wanted creative control written into their contracts, which TNA immediately refused. When Matt and Jeff attempted to use other offers as leverage, Ed Nordholm, Impact's new president replied “Well, tell them to go to WWE then”.

This caused Jeff to buckle down and refuse TNA's offer but Matt continued to negotiate. However, Matt was offered a two year deal that included the stipulation that TNA would receive 10% of all their earnings outside of TNA, at which point "The Broken One" decided to delete the idea of sticking around.

Matt then reportedly offered to come to this week's tapings to conclude their storylines and drop the tag team titles but was told by officials they wouldn't be allowed to work without being under contract.

To make this swiftly deteriorating situation even more contentious, Satin is reporting there's a dispute over who owns the rights to the "Broken" gimmick Matt believes TNA has the earnings rights to any material he's already participated in for them, while the new management feels they own the rights to the character itself.

Assuming they return, do you want to see them in their current personas or in a nostalgia run as The Hardy Boyz from their original WWE stint?
