Matt & Jeff Hardy Expected To Return To WWE Imminently

But there's still a huge question mark over the Broken gimmick.

Matt & Jeff Hardy have barely been out of the headlines since departing Impact Wrestling in February. The duo have been heavily linked with a WWE return, and this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter gives the clearest indication of their status yet.

According to the report, the Hardy's WWE comeback is all but certain, and there's a strong chance they'll even show-up at WrestleMania 33. Matt and Jeff will defend their ROH Tag Team Championships the night before, but their contracts expire on April 1st, and considering they're already in the Orlando area, bringing them back on Sunday makes sense.

There is still a huge question mark over which gimmick they'll use, however. The "Broken" act was a huge viral hit last year, and while Matt claims ownership, a legal dispute with Impact has put it on ice. Impact claim that because the gimmick took place on their television, it's their intellectual property, and their case was strong enough for ROH to state the Hardys won't be using the act at their events.

Contractually, Matt & Jeff are free to sign with WWE whenever they want, but if Impact's case stands-up, the Broken era could be over.
