Miami Enters Bid To Host WrestleMania 34

According to an article in the Miami Herald, the city has submitted a bit to host WrestleMania in either 2018, 2019, or 2020. If the bid were successful, it would lead to the second-ever WrestleMania hosted in Miami.

There's a clear roadblock in the way of a Miami WrestleMania in the near future - Orlando, Florida, has already been selected as the site of WrestleMania 33 in 2017. That makes another event in Florida almost impossible for 2018 and unlikely for the following years. Still, WWE has shown favoritism toward cities whose representatives make a big pitch for the event.

New Miami Stadium, formerly Sun Life Stadium, was home of WrestleMania 28 and hosts games for the Miami Dolphins and Miami Hurricanes. The stadium began a $350 million renovation in January of 2015 that is expected to be completed by the beginning of the 2016 football season. The renovation includes more video boards and suites, as well as an open-air canopy above the main seating areas, but it will reduce the stadium's overall football seating capacity from approximately 75,000 to 65,000.

WrestleMania 28 was one of the most successful WWE Pay-Per-Views of all time, drawing a then-WWE record live event gate of $8.9 million and approximately 1,253,000 PPV buys. Given the advent of the WWE Network, that latter statistic stands as a record that will likely never be broken. At the show, The Rock defeated John Cena, The Undertaker beat Triple H in a Hell in a Cell match, and CM Punk successfully defended the WWE Championship against Chris Jericho.
