New Japan Pro Wrestling have just recorded a record revenue figure in their latest set of annual reports, with this week's issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter noting the company earned $50 million for their 2019 calendar year. This is an increase of 10% on the previous period.

In other good news, the financial reports also state that live event attendances are up for the sixth consecutive year. This is despite the promotion running fewer events than the previous year. NJPW World subscriptions are also up to over 100,000, accounting for approximately $10 million revenue.

Profits fell from $7 million to $5.6 million as a result of investments in visual content and expansion into the United States, Australia, and United Kingdom. Meltzer's writeup questions the effectiveness of the US expansion in particular, noting that the volume of shows NJPW now hold in the company makes them feel less special.

In less encouraging news, overseas merchandise sales declined from January 2019 onwards, which is attributed to the company's lack of top draws in America.

Largely encouraging stuff, then, though last year's WWE revenue figure stood at a colossal $903.2 million. Financially, these companies are still operating in completely different worlds.
