New Japan Pro Wrestling have today announced the return of their old Super J-Cup tournament for later this year - and it's coming to the USA.

The promotion broke the news at their post-Dominion 6.9 press conference. The J-Cup will be held over three shows on the United States' west coast in August, with Tacoma, Washington (22 Aug); San Francisco, California (24 Aug) and Long Beach, California (25 Aug) playing host.

Tickets for all shows are set to go on sale on Monday, 24 June, and although no participants have been announced yet, the tournament will comprise of wrestlers from NJPW, ROH, CMLL, and other companies. Jushin Thunder Liger will act as the producer.

Initially devised as a single-night tournament in 1994, the last Super J-Cup was held in 2016, when current NXT star KUSHIDA took the victory. It's a different competition to Best of the Super Juniors in that it uses a single elimination format rather than a round robin, with a handful of non-NJPW wrestlers usually invited to compete.

With NJPW's last set of US shows blighted by major visa issues, let's hope they can clear things up before August.
