Paul Heyman Is Pushing WWE To Give Samoa Joe The Universal Title
Brock Lesnar's advocate sees big things in Joe...
Sports Illustrated are reporting that Paul Heyman is pushing the idea behind the scenes that Samoa Joe should hold WWE's Universal Title at some point in the near future - possibly as soon as SummerSlam.
It's no secret that UFC Light Heavyweight Champ Jon Jones has challenged Brock Lesnar to make an MMA return and face him in the Octagon. Should Lesnar wish to start training for that fight as soon as possible, then there's a chance he'll agree to drop the Universal Title on August 20 and take a sabbatical from pro wrestling.
For Heyman, the man best-placed to take over Brock's mantle as Raw's top champion is Samoa Joe. Heyman has been a long-time advocate (ahem) for Joe's work, and sees him as the kind of performer WWE should grant a lengthy title run to.
Should Joe win the title at SummerSlam, he wouldn't necessarily need to pin or submit Lesnar. The Fatal-4-Way match allows for the belt to change hands even without the reigning champion being involved in the finish, so it's not impossible that Joe could beat Roman Reigns or Braun Strowman.
