Potential New WWE DVD Releases Revealed

There's some new info about potential DVD releases that WWE are considering right now coming out of PWInsider.com. They sent out a survey to people on their mailing list to gauge their interest on a number of different ideas. Here's a look at some of topics they're considering: - A three-disc DVD documenting the real lives of WWE talents. They would be similar to the Daniel Bryan Road to WrestleMania XXX documentary that aired on the WWE Network. Bryan's documentary was outstanding, so it would be a smart move for WWE to consider doing those about other talents too. - Biographies on the professional and personal lives of WWE talents similar to ESPN€™s 30 for 30 series. The 30 for 30 series is great. They cover a variety of different subjects are usually one or two hours in length. Considering all the history that WWE has plus the resources at their disposal there are plenty of things that they could cover in a biographical format. - One Man Show: WWE Legends tell intimate stories on stage, inspired by the one man shows of Jim Ross and Mick Foley. Foley's shows are technically comedy shows although a lot of it is him telling wresting stories too. In the case of Ross, he's mostly telling wrestlers stories as well. They do well because wrestling fans are always craving for more info. There have also been WWE events where they told stories like the 2013 Royal Rumble when they had what they called a "Shooting Straight Panel" that could also fit in a segment like that. When you consider how many great talkers and legends at their disposal, they could really create an interesting show by using legends like Steve Austin, Roddy Piper, Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair and so many others. - WWE Reveals would be an in-depth looks at controversial moments in WWE history. Some of the moments mentioned in the survey include Lawler vs. Andy Kaufman, the passing of Owen Hart, "The Curtain Call" in Madison Square Garden with the Kliq, Mike Tyson leaving prison after a rape conviction to help WWE kickstart Steve Austin as a major star, the XFL and David Stossel being slapped by "Dr. D" David Schultz. That idea sounds like a winner. Once again it's another case of fans wanting to learn more about the business. It's not like the Lawler/Kaufman thing was done when Lawler was in WWE, but since he's been there for over 20 years they like to claim it as their own. The question that I have from reading this is why are they looking to produce more DVDs when it's market that is dying? They should be focusing more on WWE Network programming although a lot of these things could air on WWE Network too. People aren't buying DVDs at the rate they were ten years ago, so as long as WWE makes some of these things available on WWE Network that's going to be beneficial to the fans.
