Rey Mysterio Unable To Join WWE Until 2017?

Wrestling legend reportedly locked in to Lucha Underground contract.

For weeks, rumors have been circulating that former WWE star Rey Mysterio Jr. is interested in heading back to the company, with some predicting that he'll be back by SummerSlam. Given the structure of his contract with Lucha Underground, though, that may not be possible. After a year of requesting it, Mysterio was finally granted his WWE release in early 2015. With an interest in working a reduced schedule, Mysterio signed with Mexican promotion AAA, becoming one of the company's top stars along with Perro Aguayo Jr, Alberto El Patron, and Myzteziz. Unfortunately, by the end of the year, Alberto and Myzteziz had left - to say nothing of the tragic in-ring accident that killed Aguayo. Mysterio has since debuted for AAA's sister promotion, Lucha Underground, but with reports that AAA was having trouble paying him, a WWE return has looked more and more likely. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, however, he may not have the chance anytime soon - Mysterio's contract locks him in for seasons two and three of Lucha Underground, and even though season three will wrap filming in May, it will air through the summer of 2017. The problem is that Lucha Underground contracts prevent wrestlers from working another company's television broadcasts as long as their LU work is still airing. The WON's Dave Meltzer is still checking on Mysterio's specific contract, but he's currently under the impression it would take a breach of contract for the star to return to WWE before 2017.
