Ring Of Honor Recap: 3/12/11

Match One: Shiloh Jonze vs. Tommasio Ciampa w/ Prince Nana, Princess Mia & Ernesto Osiris Winner: Tommasio Ciampa Worth Watching?: Not really, it was just your standard squash match. Ciampa€™s finisher is cool, though. Next interview features the Briscoe Brothers talking about how Wrestling€™s Greatest Tag Team, saying it means Dem Boys are in their minds now and at Final Battle they will be taking the Tag Team championships. I€™m sorry but I love how they portray themselves on tv. Then it cuts to the All Night Express, again saying they are overlooked. They challenge WGTT to a match next week in a Proving Ground Contest. If they win or the match is a draw, ANX get a title opportunity. After the break we have both announcers, Jim Cornette, Steve Corino and Jimmy Jacobs in the ring awaiting Kevin Steen. They are there to finalise the settlement agreement. Steen comes out flanked by two lawyers. Cornette grabs a mic and tells Steen that he is a great wrestler and a guy he€™d like to have at Ring Of Honor except for the fact he€™s crazy. He never knows what he€™s going to do and expects to find him on TMZ with numbers across his chest. He says he is impossible to deal with and everything that has happened the last year is exactly why he isn€™t right here. Steen tells him not to worry about numbers across his chest, except when he tattoos the date Cornette dies on them. Classy. Who approved that line? He says what Corenette said is the nicest thing he€™s heard all week, and that he€™d rather be crazy than a hypocrite. He askes how can he say he is a great wrestler when he ignores the fact ROH was held up by Steen for a full year, then asks him what the offer is. Corino steps up and talks about how all of these events are his own fault. It made him realise that everything he did in the 17 years of his career was wrong and that he has no friends, and that is what will happened to Steen. Steen cuts him off and says Corino and Jacobs are now as pathetic as Cornette. Corino then makes his offer: Kevin Steen vs. Steve Corino at Final Battle. If he wins he is reinstated in ROH, but he will be facing Steve Corino, an evil person. Cornette cuts in and says that Jimmy Jacobs will be the referee, which Steen says sounds great and that he can€™t wait to see the look on Jacobs€™ face when he makes the count that reinstates Steen. He then demands Jim Cornette be at ringside and watch him win his career back and then says he won€™t be responsible for Corino€™s career ending, Cornette will be. He then spits in Corino€™s face and an attempted fistfight ensues as we cut to another break. Inside Ring Of Honor now. First on the agenda is another recap of last week€™s main event. As a result of that the Television Championship match at Final Battle will now be Jay Lethal defending against both Mike Bennett and El Generico, and as per Bennett€™s request, Todd Sinclair will not be the referee. Then we get an interview with Eddie Edwards with his trainer Dan Severn. They talk about great fight trilogies and that the fans deserve to know who is the better man, and that is what they will find out at Final Battle. We then cut to Davey Richards, who says that since Severn has come into the pictue, he doesn€™t know who Edwards is anymore. We then cut to Roderick Strong and his own training regime for his open invitational at Final Battle. The regime consists of drinking beer with three attractive women by his side. Before the main event we get an interview with The Young Bucks, who say they deserve respect, and all the veterans don€™t give them any. They cite what Booker T said about their lack of respect a few months ago and brush it off. The fact that was brought up actually made me laugh. Nice use of real life events. Match Two: Future Shock (Kyle O€™Riley & Adam Cole) vs. The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) Winners: The Young Bucks Worth Watching?: Not really, a bit of a dull affair. I have to say, this felt like a very flat episode. I understand that ROH need to push the storylines leading to Final Battle, especially with the show now only a few weeks away, but at no point did I really find myself interested in them or the two matches, nor did I care that much. We€™ll see how next week plays out.
