Prior to the start of Raw on Monday, WWE.com announced that Seth Rollins would do battle with Samoa Joe at Payback, bringing their months-long rivalry to a head.

Rollins spent the latter half of 2016 trying to get his hands on Triple H, but when it finally looked like he would - on the episode of Raw following the 2017 Royal Rumble - he was blindsided by the debuting Samoa Joe. Joe, HHH's "destroyer," laid out Rollins, but in the process, the former two-time WWE Champion suffered a very real knee injury. That forced him out of a planned Fastlane match with Joe and nearly kept his bout with Triple H off WrestleMania for the second consecutive year.

Rollins returned to full-time in-ring action on the Raw following WrestleMania 33, clashing with Joe in a tag team match. The following week on Raw, after general manager Kurt Angle announced he would not be trading Rollins to Smackdown, "The Architect" found himself on the business end of a sneak attack from Joe.

Payback airs live on the WWE Network on Sunday, April 30 at 8:00 PM.
