WWE's Shane McMahon was one of two people on board a helicopter that made a crash landing near New York's Gilgo Beach, according to local news station ABC7 (via Cageside Seats).

The SmackDown Live commissioner got a scare after the aircraft he was in was forced into a sudden landing about half a mile from the NY coast.

A rescue team responding to the incident picked up McMahon and his fellow passenger, the latter of whom had been flying the helicopter, and brought them safely to shore.

The duo are said to have escaped without injury, with the 47-year-old later seen participating in an impromptu media scrum after the news broke locally.

Speaking to reporters, McMahon praised the efforts of his pilot and the rescue team for the way they handled the testing situation.

Shane returned to WWE - of which his father, Vince, is the CEO and majority owner - early last year after an absence of more than six years.

He has since assumed the position of SmackDown's on-screen authority figure, occasionally stepping back into the ring in WrestleMania matches with Undertaker and AJ Styles.
