TNA Impact Moving To Wednesday Nights

Move to Wednesdays now confirmed.

Update: TNA have now confirmed the move to Wednesdays via a press release. President Dixie Carter tweeted the following; https://twitter.com/TNADixie/status/599262413553332226 TNA Impact Wrestling was given a Friday night timeslot by Destination America when they moved there in January. According to PWInsider, there have been discussions about possibly moving Impact to Wednesday nights at 9pmET for two hours likely with a replay immediately after. Nothing is official right now, but it has been talked about. It was an odd choice because Fridays have less television viewers than any other weekday, but Destination America executives felt like it would be good because WWE fans were used to watching Smackdown on Fridays. The experiment hasn't gone that well since Impact viewership numbers are at about half of what they were on Spike TV. Part of it is because Destination America isn't a big channel, but the Friday timeslot definitely hurts as well. The Wednesday timeslot actually sounds like a good idea. That's because Wednesdays are already a busy night for wrestling fans because NXT airs at 8pmET on WWE Network although it's available on demand after it's over, so it's available anytime people want it. Lucha Underground also airs Wednesdays at 8pmET on the El Rey Network. It would be as if TNA had a lead in from those other shows even though they are completely different companies. In other TNA programming news, on May 22 there won't be a new episode of Impact. They are going to air the 2014 Slammiversary PPV in that spot. The reason is because it's the Memorial Day long weekend in the US, so the feeling is that they wouldn't get a big audience for a new show. The relationship with TNA and Destination America has been a rocky one already after five months. The plan was for Destination America to air multiple TNA shows per week. They started out doing that, but after the number of viewers weren't great, Destination America has pulled back on the content and they show a lot less. At the recent tapings, TNA President Dixie Carter told the talent not to worry about the ratings as a way to try to tell them that everything is fine. There likely is some concern from both sides about TNA's future on the channel, but at least moving Impact to a different night could help get the show more exposure. If something becomes official, we'll let you know.
