TNA Six-Sided Ring To Make Permanent Return

After conducting an online poll, TNA Wrestling will revert back to the six-sided ring.

On June 17th, TNA Wrestling posted a brief poll on their website to determine which style of ring they would permanently use from here on out -- a classic four-sided ring, or the six-sides of yesteryear. According to TNA, whichever ring received the most fan votes would be used from now on, starting with the television tapings in NYC on the June 25 - 27th weekend. The poll was originally set to end at midnight on Thursday, after a live edition of Impact. However, the voting time period was extended through Sunday, so as to incorporate the UK fans who wouldn€™t see Impact until then. On Monday, June 23rd at 8pm, the winning ring was announced. Somewhat unsurprisingly, the six-sided ring will see its return. The traditional squared circle lost to the six-sides in a landslide, as most TNA fans have been clamoring for its return since its original departure in 2010. Despite the fan excitement for the return of the six-sided ring, many TNA stars have spoken out on Twitter about their apprehension and disdain for the non-traditional ring size. As many wrestlers have stated before, the six-sided ring is much less forgiving when taking bumps and the ropes are often far tighter. Austin Aries and Ethan Carter III both expressed concerns for their bodies in the six-sided ring and lambasted TNA management for leaving their potential well-being in the hands of the fans. Aries stated: €œSo the people who don't wrestle are letting people who don't wrestle decide what I have to wrestle in? € Please understand, I do think the fans voices should be heard € but I'm not sure this is the appropriate place for it, nor do I feel the potential risk outweighs the potential benefit for the wrestlers." While ECIII expressed similar sentiments by saying, €œ should not have a voice when it comes to my well-being and safety. want a 6-sided ring once a year? Fine, I can compromise € but wrestling belongs in .€ Even Sean Waltman, a former TNA competitor who worked inside the six sides, criticized TNA management, tweeting, €œThe 6 sided ring might look special, but it's actually way more dangerous.€ According to TNA and its president, Dixie Carter, the six-sided ring is here to stay, and will not just be a one-shot deal. Whether that will actually be the case remains to be seen, but at least for the time being, the classic ring most associated with TNA is back -- thanks to the ravenous despite the modest protest from the stars who will be within its six sides.
