Triple H Reveals Future Plans For 205 Live
Desert Island Rescue.
Despite more drastic reports misinterpreted elsewhere, it would appear that 205 Live will live on* as WWE's IMPACT Wrestling-esque brand, in that it is demonstrably very good but sadly irrelevant disproportionate to its talent roster - and immune to death.
In some, undetermined capacity, at least.
Speaking to Newsweek, Triple H said:
"You'll start to see 205 begin to [sit under the NXT umbrella]. I think it always existed as an island unto itself, a little bit, and it's become lost in this limbo. You'll begin to see it move more towards the NXT banner and the talent there. We have a lot of talent. For them to begin to compete either open against anyone [sic] or in the Cruiserweight division, but have that title sit under the NXT brand, is more meaningful.
Author's note:
What this means exactly isn't clear for the future of the one-hour Network show. Triple H's words could be interpreted as the end of 205 Live brand as we know it. He seems to recognise what has been fairly obvious from the start. While enjoyed by a committed cult-within-a-cult, the sheer silence that cloaks virtually every 205 match, even the very best until the last five, pulsating minutes, does, in fact, speak volumes. And, if anything, the extra hour and higher profile of the retooled NXT will further exhaust the audience through sheer content fatigue.
The talent on 205 Live ranges from good to phenomenal. They deserve a grander platform - the roar of the crowd...
