Update On Rey Mysterio's WWE Status
The masked man lit up the Royal Rumble, but hasn't signed a contract yet...
PWInsider are reporting that Rey Mysterio's surprise return during the men's Royal Rumble match was a one off appearance.
Rey looked in tremendous physical shape as he dazzled during a near 10-minute Rumble performance, but he hasn't put pen-to-paper on a WWE contract as of yet and there's no guarantee he'll be sticking around throughout WrestleMania season either.
Reports suggest Mysterio's inclusion in the Rumble was also decided within the last week and came at very short notice. Previously, Rey had been talking to Impact Wrestling about signing with them before tapings in mid-January.
Once talks broke down between Rey and Impact, he was free to accept WWE's offer to return.
His return at the Rumble was said to be a shock for most backstage at the show. WWE elected to keep the big comeback secret to all but a handful of stars Mysterio would be working with during the match.
Given the way Mysterio looked, came across in the ring and was received by the audience in Philly, it'd be a shame for WWE to miss out on re-signing him. Let's hope both parties can agree to something more permanent.
