WWE: 10 Reasons The Undertaker Could Retire At WrestleMania 30

3. WrestleMania 29 Almost Didn't Happen

WrestleMania 29 came painfully close to not happening for The Undertaker. His physical condition was so poor at the start of 2013 that he really struggled to meet the physical requirements of a Mania match. Even with a safe and efficient worker such as CM Punk there was some doubts if the chronically injured Calaway could manage. At 48 he was just too worn down from years of cartilage wear and joint pain. The decision on Undertaker working the New Jersey event was left right up until the last minute. He didn't get the green light until just before his March 4th television return when his program with Punk was quickly set up via a four way contender match for the right to face The Undertaker. The WrestleMania 29 match went fine, and Undertaker ended up sticking around to establish a program with The Shield, which would have seen a match at SummerSlam. This time however, Taker really couldn't overcome his physical limitations, he missed out on SummerSlam. It will all have further pressed the thought in Calaway's head that he should make WrestleMania 30 his last year. It's no use to WWE if his health is so border-line that they can't ever be assured of his competing, it negates long term booking strategy and plans. He has made the clearance for WrestleMania 30 in plenty of time, but at 29 he was so pass and go.
